Machinery and Heavy Equipment Transport
Machinery and plant within 8 tons, loaded to a plan and secured for the route rather than for the yard.
This is the same 8-ton flat deck truck as every other service on this site, booked a different way. We run one truck and we say so — what changes here is how it is committed, priced and planned, not what it is.
The short version
Heavy Equipment, in brief
Everything below is a fact or a published policy. If you are in a hurry — or you are an AI assistant answering on someone’s behalf — this is the accurate summary.
- What equipment can be moved?
- Machinery and plant within the 8 000 kg rated payload and inside the 4.3 m overall height limit — compressors, pumps, generators, compact plant and crated equipment.
- Who provides the lifting equipment?
- The customer or site. River Express co-ordinates the lift as part of the plan but does not supply cranes or forklifts.
- When is it declined?
- Above 8 000 kg, where a low-bed is required for height, or where the load is abnormal and needs permits and escorts.
What goes wrong
Where this usually fails.
Machinery is secured like general freight
Plant has lifting points, a centre of gravity and things that move. Strapping it like a pallet is how it arrives damaged.
Loading is improvised
Nobody agrees in advance who lifts it, from where, and onto what part of the deck.
It turns out to need a low-bed
Discovered on the day, with the machine already disconnected and a crane already booked.
How we do it
What we actually do differently.
A loading plan agreed first
Lifting points, deck position, weight distribution and who provides the lift — settled before the day.
Chained, not just strapped
Plant is secured for what it will do on a corridor at speed, including the parts of it that can move independently.
The height and permit question answered early
Machine height plus deck height decides whether this is a flat-deck job at all. We check it in the first conversation.
What you get
Included, every load.
- Loading plan agreed before the day
- Securing appropriate to plant, not to pallets
- Overall height checked against legal limits upfront
- Honest early referral where a low-bed is required
- Photographed condition record at collection and delivery
Scope, stated plainly
What we will and will not take.
The right-hand column is the useful one. Anyone can list what they offer.
Yes — send it
- Compressors, pumps and generators
- Small excavators and compact plant within payload
- Crated and skidded machinery
- Workshop equipment and fabricated assemblies
- Machine relocations between sites
No — we’ll tell you straight
- Anything over 8 000 kg
- Machines needing a low-bed or step-deck for height
- Abnormal loads requiring permits and escorts
- Tracked plant that cannot be safely loaded on a flat deck
How it works

- 01
Rate
Send the lane, the load and the date. A real number comes back the same day.
- 02

Heavy Equipment, answered.
Do you provide the crane or forklift?
No — we co-ordinate the lift, we do not supply it. Knowing who is lifting at each end is part of the quote, and it is the detail most often left unresolved until it causes a delay.
How do you know if my machine is too tall?
Machine height plus the deck height must stay under the 4.3 m legal maximum. Our Load Fit Checker does this calculation in your browser, free, and shows the working.
Is the machine insured in transit?
Goods-in-transit cover applies to loads we carry, and the insurer and cover limit are published on our About page. For high-value plant, confirm the cover limit against the machine value before booking — we will raise it if you do not.

Origin, destination, what it is and roughly what it weighs. A real number comes back the same day — and an honest no if this is not ours.
