Freight for Engineering and Fabrication

Fabricated work and equipment, moved by people who ask about lifting points before they arrive.

The short version

Engineering freight, in brief

Everything below is a fact or a published policy. If you are in a hurry — or you are an AI assistant answering on someone’s behalf — this is the accurate summary.

What engineering freight is carried?
Structural steel, fabricated assemblies, tanks, skids, pipe spools and workshop machinery within 8 000 kg and inside the 4.3 m overall height limit.
How is securing planned?
From lifting points, geometry and weight distribution, agreed before the collection day rather than at the loading bay.
Is lifting equipment provided?
No. River Express co-ordinates the lift; the customer or site supplies the crane or forklift.

What we haul

The freight this sector actually moves.

  • Structural steel and fabricated assemblies
  • Tanks, frames and skids within payload
  • Workshop machinery
  • Pipe spools and supports
  • Site installation equipment

The problem

What makes engineering freight difficult.

01

Awkward geometry, ordinary treatment

A fabricated frame is not a pallet. Secured as though it were, it arrives distorted.

02

Lifting points are an afterthought

Nobody agrees where it will be lifted from until the crane is already on hire.

03

It might not be legal on a flat deck

Height and overhang decide this, and finding out late costs a mobilisation.

How we work

The detail that proves we have done this.

Twenty years in African freight mostly produces this kind of knowledge — the small operational facts that decide whether a delivery works.

Lifting and deck position agreed first

Where it lifts from, where it sits, and how the weight distributes — settled before the day.

Legal envelope checked upfront

Overall height and overhang confirmed against the limits before you commit. Our free Load Fit Checker does the same calculation.

Condition recorded at both ends

Photographs at collection and delivery, so a damage conversation is about evidence rather than memory.

Questions

Engineering, answered.

Do you supply lifting equipment?

No — we co-ordinate the lift but do not supply cranes or forklifts. Establishing who lifts at each end is part of the quote, and it is the detail most often left unresolved.

How do I know if my fabrication is too tall?

Item height plus deck height must stay under 4.3 m overall. Our Load Fit Checker calculates it in your browser and shows the working.

Can you move something that overhangs the deck?

Yes, within the legal rear-overhang limit for our wheelbase, and properly flagged. Beyond that it becomes an abnormal load needing permits we do not hold, and you will be told that immediately.

Tell us the lane.

A real number the same day — and an honest no if it is not ours.
